I'm not ready to jump back into prepper radio, but I had some time while waiting for parts to arrive for another project, so I reviewed many of the recent threads on Radio on this site. Some of the discussion is for CB and GMRS radio.
I "reviewed" (more like, "scanned" in many cases) the following threads:
MFJ is going out of business — 1 post
GMRS basestation and antenna recommendation — 3 pages of posts
Ham Radio hands-on training — 2 pages of posts
Ham radio starter kit — 41 pages of posts
Ham travel-emergency channel — 3 pages of posts
Have shortages impacted radio equipment? — 2 pages of posts
Poll: SHTF Comms ? What are you using? — 6 pages of posts
Poll: Vehicle CB radio options — 5 pages of posts
What are folks using for SHTF comms? — 4 pages of posts
The Ham radio starter kit thread was not only the biggest, but had more useful and informed information than the other threads combined. There's a good reason it is pinned to the top of the Preparedness and Survival forum. If you only have time for one thread, read this one. And if you only have time for one post, read post #1 by JackThompson.
Lots of experienced ham operators contributed on this thread. There were so many good links provided that I gave up trying to make a list. I especially appreciated the very many and very good quality links provided by ATCclears.
