Short but sweet job. Customer brought in a bubba'd original Colt Single Action Army. Story goes that this gun was treated as a toy for most of its recent life, and it unfortunately exhibited many signs of this abuse. The most obvious was the lack of a front sight. At some point the original had probably broken off, and been poorly replaced with a brass one that dovetailed in place. The dovetail was cut very crooked on the barrel, and had also been peened at the edges to fix a less than perfect fit. This replacement sight also had the blade break off, and now it's only purpose was to serve as an eyesore.

I started by recutting the dovetail in the mill. This would remove the peening marks and straighten things out. You can see from the photos how crooked it was. After my first couple roughing passes, I had removed almost all of the brass from the right side and there was still 1/16" to go on the left.

I then had to make a new front sight. Customer requested the new one also be made from brass. I roughed out the profile on the mill and cut the dovetail to fit the barrel. Once installed, everything was hand filed to shape.
