We've had this in the family for quite some time.
My grandfather had brought it and a very nice 6.5 Arisaka (unmolested) back from the war.
This one has been a family deer rifle, and uses 30-06.
Nobody really knows what it's chambered in, but it was rumored to be something like an Ackley improved, but I'm not so sure...
And it leaves a mark on the brass that tells me the chamber wasn't cut very cleanly...
This also taught me that the rumor that 7.7 Japanese rifles were designed to fire the 30-06, were GREATLY untrue, SADLY SO.
It's a decent gun, but it seems to lose accuracy after just a few shots.
It's badly pitted from living on the coast with my Dad, so I'm thinking of refinishing it...just can't decide on what finsh...
I'd like to restore it some, and possibly load the formed brass using a neck sizer and some .303 bullets to see if i can get it to perform better.
