Join the #1 community for gun owners of the Northwest
We believe the 2nd Amendment is best defended through grass-roots organization, education, and advocacy centered around individual gun owners. It is our mission to encourage, organize, and support these efforts throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming.
Question: So all new Form 4s will have the barcode to speed up ATF processing. What about all the non-barcoded forms earlier in line? What happens to them?
There is a new format for ATF forms that includes a barcode. The barcode contains all the data on the form, which is much faster to input and process by the ATF.
Silencershop started it with the ATF but the form and software is available to everybody.
Curt's was reporting getting form 3's back in 24 hours using the barcode form
They will still be processed. All the bar code does is automatically enter your data into the system. And that was the part of the process that was most backed up. The applications still then go to the examiner for approval of the background check.
I read that some vendors were already using the new system and they will benefit from the expedited processing otherwise it will proceed as normal I imagine.
Now if they could just move the BGC to use NICS... make a Form 3/4 go like a 4473.
Resulting proliferation of NFA firearms builds stronger NFA community, making further Grab via state-level NFA bans less likely. Imagine thousands of new WA/OR NFA owners being told by Inslee and Brownstain "we wanna take away your shiny new toys before you've even had a chance to use 'em"...
