Last night the CBS show 60 Minutes had a segment on Chicago and the dramatic increase in the murder rate in 2016. 50+ street gangs attempting to control the drug trade, and the police actually backing off a bit because it's a no-win situation for them. It seems to be bordering on lawless in some areas of the city.

HeyJackass!

At some point calling what it is will be required. This is simply 50 years of Dem control failure, sadly it left at the doorstep of the Citenzery & Police.

If it wasn't for the children & adult bystanders getting killed in the drive-bys, it would be a win for society. Kind of like when Iraq and Iran were fighting a war.

Man, what a septic tank. If nothing else, from a prep standpoint, it is another reminder to be no where near a major population center when "it" goes down. Some of them are already in Mad Max mode, so imagine when the last vestiges of the rule of law is gone and essential services are disrupted or completely wiped out.

If the media would just ignore this it would go away.
Maybe we could speed it up and send more ammo?
See I'm the kinda guy if I was warden of a prison I would drop a ton of shanks in before a riot
But that's just me:cool:

But how can it be fixed? I believe that better education at an early age is one way to help out. I was shocked that at a young age my kids hadn't yet heard of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson in school (Portland) when they were sharing with me what they had learned about Martin Luther King. It certainly jump started my more serious involvement in their early childhood education. I'm not sure how this could easily be made better, if at all, although to start keeping the real nasty folks locked up longer would help. The police who have to deal daily with this have my prayers and thoughts.

And yet people still look to Chicago as some kind of role model for gun control success. WTF?! The sheer blind ignorance and stupidity of those voters that support the politicians responsible for this crap is beyond my comprehension.

Let 'em all kill each other - because no one seems intent on doing anything else about it. Damn

Speaking of the politicians responsible, you know the Emanuel administrations fix for this problem, "meaningful gun laws" being passed at the federal level...

Trump: Chicago should ask for crime help; Rahm did last month
Adam Collins said:
As the president-elect knows from his conversation with the mayor, we agree the federal government has a strong role to play in public safety by funding summer jobs and prevention programming for at-risk youth, by holding the criminals who break our gun laws accountable for their crimes, by passing meaningful gun laws, and by building on the partnerships our police have with federal law enforcement.

I wonder if he is referring to those gun shows in WI or IN that sell "illegal guns"....

762 murders in 12 months: Chicago's deadly 2016 - CNN.com
Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said:
We border Indiana and Wisconsin, which have really lax gun laws, We know that people from Chicago go across the border, fill up gym bags with illegal weapons from gun shows and things of that nature and they come back here and sell them to the gangs.

Ahhh, who am I kidding, we all know that the problem in Chicago is not the politicians, criminals or gangs, it's their racist police department.

Eddie Johnson named new Chicago police superintendent
Johnson begins his first day as superintendent facing those issues head on. Hours after he was sworn in, a mayoral task force issued a report calling on the Chicago Police Department to "acknowledge its racist history."

"We have racism in America, we have racism in Chicago and it stands to reason that we have racism in our agency," he said.

At mid-afternoon, Johnson said he still had not read the accountability task force's report, but he said his goal is to root out racism and, when he leaves office, for the department to be in better shape than when he arrived.

Emanuel himself acknowledged racism in the U.S., Chicago and in CPD after Johnson was sworn in.

"The question is not whether we have racism, it's what are we doing about it," Emanuel said.

The Police Accountability Task Force spent several months listening to angry Chicagoans. The executive summary of its report said police have lost the trust of the public they serve. Many of those interviewed said they believe "CPD officers are racist, have no respect for the lives and experiences of people of color."

I'm enjoying the discomfiture of the officials and demos of Chi-town!
However, I'm sickened and deeply saddened by the slaughter of regular folks, innocent children, parents and grandmas!
I have no solutions, I don't see anyone beating the democratic machine there. They've been in complete and corrupt control there for umpteen generations!
Closest I can come is to arm the heck out of the whole populace! :(

Someone suggested JOBS before. They don't want jobs
You suggest education.
They need parenting . They need discipline as children
They need purpose.
Without parents around who care it will never change.
Even at that it would take generations to make changes. So the solution for now would be maybe the national guard completely violating civil rights and sweeping the area for gang bangers
Anyone up for that? I'm not. Maybe they do that here next
Maybe just hiring more cops and not tying their hands?
How many of the existing cops have resumes in at other departments now? Lol

National Geographic created a series called Drugs, Inc. The episode "Windy City High" focused on Chicago. I saw the episode approximately 2-3 years ago. A couple of observations in that episode always stuck in my mind:
  • They estimated 270,000 addicts in Chicago at that time.
  • Control of the street corners for drug trafficking is an ongoing war. As soon as someone is shot or gone then someone else is willing to move in and "open for business".
