howdy
Howdy is an informal greeting, originally a shortened form of the greeting How do ye? It originated in South England dialect in 1563/87.Literature from that period includes the use of How-do, how-do and How as a greeting used by the Scottish when addressing Anglo settlers in greeting. The double form of the idiom is still found in parts of the American Southwest as Howdy, howdy. Without regard to etymological beginnings, the word is used as a greeting such as "Hello" and not, normally, as an inquiry.
In the rural Southern United States, Howdy is a colloquial contraction of the formal greeting of How do you do?, and as such is considered a formal and acceptable greeting in the South, as well as Western states such as Idaho, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Arizona, and Texas. Howdy is also the official greeting of Texas A&M University, though the two are not always automatically associated.
The word became recently popular in other areas of the world as it is the default greeting from the dashboard of WordPress, a very popular content management system. The probable reason for using "Howdy" (instead of "Welcome" or "Hello") in the dashboard is because Matt Mullenweg, one of the main developers of WordPress, was born and raised in Texas.
Been into guns since my 20s. Was a member of gunsnet back before it was gunsnet (I think it was just ak47net?) Kinda outgrew it though. Got more into collecting and joined Gunboards. Still like that one. These days I'm more into the Garagejournal type of board, but with things so weird here in...
Been here awhile just don’t post much, or have time to lol work work work. I’m here because I’ve got a few Arsenal aak parts and need to sell them. Plus the information that you can get about specific things. Figured maybe I can pass along a good deal on arsenal parts. I’m on Outdoorstrader and...
It's good to be here, looks like a nice forum.
I tend to collect a lot of antiques, early 1800s to pre ww2. I attempt to repair things on my own, it's been a lot of fun to learn basic firearm repair.
Hello everyone :s0162:
I joined Northwest Firearms shortly after moving to Washington from Texas back in 2009, but it keeps telling me I'm a new member and should make an introduction. I figured I better remedy that sooner rather than later 😅 I bought a few things from members back in the day...
Hi there, Hope you all are having a good winter season. Im grateful to join NWF and am looking forward to all that is on here and the community. I mostly target shoot and am practicing more in the self defense realm.
Howdy Y'all.
Fighting Texas Aggie here. Moved to Tacoma last year for work and to find cooler weather and mountains. Loving it so far. Getting back into shooting now that I'm settled in, so information about the best places to shoot is welcome. Gotta say that being able to just go out on public...
I've found myself on this forum off and on over the years getting answers to my questions. Many times I have wanted to chime in but never could as I didn't have an account, and signing up just wasn't a priority so it just never happened. I guess today I had the time to sign up, so here I am...
I've been an enthusiast for a while now, but have recently started adding to my collection, and figured joining a forum board may be worth my while. Car enthusiast, gun enthusiast, golf enthusiast, freedom enthusiast.
Moved to Tacoma, WA from Utah almost two years ago. I recently caught the gun bug again and was trying to find a classifieds page similar to what we have back in Utah and stumbled across this nice little forum. Haven't been out shooting since I moved here, but would like to change that soon...
New here and a new firearm owner, in general getting myself up to speed on NFA Laws because I am doing research on building my own AR.
My backwards-bubblegum state doesn't allow AR Pistols so I am going to have to put a 16" barrel on my Build and do all the Hellfire BS to be able to use it with some...
Hello all! I'm a 31 year old dude from Everett new to the whole bang bang shoot um up business.
Man, I hate indoor ranges. Wish there were more outdoor places to shoot. I'm primarily using this website to find places to go in Snohomish County to shoot outdoors, free of fees! I guess the...
Glad to make your acquaintance, and thanks for being a resource in my community. I look forward to hanging out, learning, and maybe even contributing to this forum in the future.
Hey there, got on here to post some inherited rifles in classifieds but also am interested in finding some good public lands to target shoot...have a Canik TP9 SF Elite and a Zastava ZPAP85 that have mainly been delegated to dry fire training in house. Cheers!
Just saying hello. I've been browsing the site for months waiting to get back from a "visit" to Poland with the Guard. I think a new firearm (or two) are well deserved self gifts so I'll be poking around a while. I hope you're all well.
