My only experience was with "First defense" while I was in the USMC. Both on the user and receiver end. The stuff is effective. So much so that I would gladly take a taser over getting sprayed.
It's important to understand distances and the needle effect when using OC. Also ensure that your daughter understands that if she had to utilize it there is a high probability she is going to be contaminated as well.
It will suck but it may be wise to introduce her to OC in a controlled environment before she begins to carry it. That way she understands the feeling, symptoms, etc. and can learn to fight through it.
