Finding The Perfect .22LR Barrel Length

"Perfect" can mean much more than highest velocity.

Weight and balance mean more to me than a few FPS.

If I NEED more, I'll use something other than 22LR.

Or just use hotter ammo. Interesting study though.

My guess is matching the powders burn rate to the barrel length has more to do with velocity than the barrel length alone.

The same thing happens with 9mm and other fast burning powder cartridges. 9mm tops out around 16" and just gets slower due to barrel drag after that.
