Thanks for the reply.Stainless Steel Blackening Kit

Never used this stuff, but I'd guess the results would be similar to cold blue. And for over $100.... best looking solution would likely be Cerakote.
Both good makes of rings and I may have to go that route if I can't find what I need. I'm just surprised I can't find one extended Ruger ring anywhere.Leupold and Warne both make extended rings in the Ruger pattern.
I just use a sharpie.OP already found another solution, but I am putting this here for completeness.
You can blue stainless, what is hard is making that match the blueing on another type of steel. This is because the oxide layers are different, and it is those layers that make the color. If you just want something "close enough" knock yourself out, if you want something to match good luck.

Dulite 3-0 disagreesStainless steel and bluing salts DO NOT mix.
Yup! I have a stainless rifle I was considering having coated. For future reference, there is a Cerakote color that mimics carbon steel bluing.
I have a barreled action done in it and it exceeded my expectations.
Update for the ring. As of today, 8 weeks, still no sign of the rare as rocking horse poop ring!I rang Ruger Shop and asked them how long of a wait time there was for the ring I wanted. I was told about 2-4 weeks so I ended up placing an order for the ring I needed.
Thanks for the replies and advice.
That's why I always double the lead time for a special order plus I make that the minimum-- then if it does come in sooner, the client is pleasantly surprisedUpdate for the ring. As of today, 8 weeks, still no sign of the rare as rocking horse poop ring!
