Excellent point. Though the kind that breaky-open can be fun too.

Yah, they are fun, and if you remember to eject upside down not likely to get any brass jammed.
But in general, As the "best kind" question asked, notwithstanding easier barrel and cylinder cleaning, just viewing the large spectrum of available calibers, not offered in break open style, the flip cylinder out wins.
At least in my mind.

I'm partial to S&W and having used all frame sizes in several calibers I've settled on a 696 as the most useful for myself.
I think I could get used to a Freedom Arms for general kicking around in the woods though.

There are three perfect designs… The Ruger Bisley, the SW DA (no HH), and the original Colt Python. Anything else is bigger, smaller, cheaper, or stupid looking (ahem Rhino).

I'd say a 2 1/2" S&W Model 19, 66, 686 or 586 would make great combat revolvers.

But I think one might find even that snubbie in your pocket or on your waistband makes a pretty decent makeshift combat revolver if one needs to skin that smokewagon.

Too hard to just pick one... my 3 current favorites
-S&W 629 with 4 inch barrel
-Ruger GP100 in 22lr, 10 shot capacity, 5.5inch barrel
-S&W 627 pro with 4inch barrel, 8 round cylinder of sweet sweet .357 mag
